Your Favorite Coffee is our Specialty Coffee
What is special at Specialty Coffee? First and foremost: the variety of aromas and the unique taste experience. That has its price: We pay significantly more for the coffee than is usual on the world market. But we know exactly where a coffee comes from and who grew it and how – so absolute transparency.

Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO YOU DIFFER FROM OTHER COFFEE ROASTERS?
We only offer you Specialty Coffee and that’s how we differentiate ourselves from a “normal” coffee roaster. Specialty Coffee means that we
- pay the farmers well above the world market price and thus also above the well-known fair seal,
- also obtain the raw coffee from individual farmers and not only through cooperatives as with the Fair Seal,
- have access to rarities and exclusive coffees only through good contacts and our network,
- that we state transparently – sometimes down to the farmer’s field – where the coffee originates,
- gently roast and reveal the 800 aromas that a raw coffee bean can bring with it from the origin in drum roasting.
In doing so, you only order coffees from our Specialty Coffee Roastery that you would not get in retail or from “normal” coffee roasters.
Finest processing of high-quality coffee beans
Our coffees are carefully refined and can be fully traced back to their place of origin. If you order something from our Specialty Coffee Roastery online via our coffee shop, you can be sure that the coffee beans have been gently roasted in the drum. Of course, the careful processing also has an effect on the taste.
Roasting is our passion.
Here in the coffee shop of our Specialty Coffee Roastery, you can order our coffee varieties online, put them together individually and even have them individually printed as gift packs. For example, you have the choice between single origin, which only comes from one plantation, and blends, which are composed of different harvests and roasted individually by us. You can order the coffee ready-ground for your brewing method or grind the coffee beans yourself.
We offer you a great selection of coffees in different pack sizes.
In the end, you get a coffee that is brewed perfectly to the point. We also offer coffee seminars if you would like to develop your skills yourself.
WHERE DOES YOUR SPECIALTY COFFEE COM FROM?
In our Flatberry Specialty Coffee Roastery you can only buy products online that meet our high quality standard, i.e. only so-called Specialty Coffees, if possible with an SCA score or organic certification.
For us, good coffee means sustainably produced and fairly traded specialty coffee
Our coffee is not comparable to industrial coffee or coffee from a “normal” coffee roastery. This is mainly due to our philosophy.
Every coffee farmer should be able to make a good living from his work for such a great product.
As a Specialty Coffee Roastery, our coffee prices are significantly higher than in retail or in a normal coffee roastery, i.e. we pay the coffee farmers 3 – 4 times more than the world market price for coffee.
If you would like to stay up to date about our specialty coffee roastery, you are welcome to subscribe to our newsletter. Or attend one of our coffee seminars. In addition, you will not only find individual coffees in our coffee shop, but also our tasting packages.
IS YOUR COFFEE FRESHLY ROASTED?
Mario – our licensed roaster – roasts fresh coffee several times a week. The freshly roasted coffee is placed on the shelf according to the FIFO principle, i.e. the coffee that was roasted first is then packed first when you order.
Mario usually roasts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
We have a small drum roaster and always ensure that our specialty coffees are roasted as evenly as possible. They are high quality coffee beans.

Roasted on demand in our Coffee of the Month subscription
If you have subscribed to our Coffee of the Month, Mario will roast the coffee on the day your monthly subscription is called. Of course, these coffees are also very special coffees that are available in very small quantities.

WHERE IS THE ROAST DATE OF YOUR COFFEE GIVEN?
Mario roasts fresh coffee several times a week in our Specialty Coffee Roastery and enters the roasting date in our roasting book. The use-by date for your coffee is then calculated from this. In some countries, the use-by date is mandatory.
Our roast date = best before date – 1 year
The roasting date is easy to recognize on our coffee packages, as it is one year before the best-before date. However, stating the roasting date alone is not permitted in some countries, since coffee is a foodstuff. Depending on the packaging, the best-before date can also vary heavily.
We use coated packaging with a semi-permeable valve and resealable zipper.
Our coffee packaging still looks very natural with the brown kraft paper and also feels very pleasant. With our packaging, the Specialty Coffee can be kept for 12 months thanks to the coating. Store our specialty coffee cool and dry in our packaging. After Mario has roasted, the coffee rests for 3-4 days in food-safe tin cans and gast. Then we pack it in our packaging and seal the coffee packaging.
WHY IS IT BEST IF I GRIND MY COFFEE MYSELF?
The taste of your coffee not only depends on the quality and how Mario roasted the Specialty Coffee. Did you know that the degree of grinding also has a major impact on the taste of the coffee? That means it’s in your hands if you own a grind coffee maker or use a coffee grinder.
If you grind coarser, the coffee tends to taste fruitier, if you grind it finer then it tastes more bitter.
The coffee beans act as a kind of natural capsule. Only in the coffee bean is the round taste safely preserved until you enjoy it. Of course, we also do the grinding for you in our Specialty Coffee Roastery. You order the coffee as a whole bean or ground in a packaging that preserves as much of the aroma as possible. But:
Coffee loses up to 50% of its aroma in the first 20 minutes when it is ground – no matter where you buy it.
It is important that the coffee is packed and sealed just as well afterwards. We only use coated coffee packaging with a zip and semi-permeable valve for our Specialty Coffees. In this way, all types of coffee retain their great aroma.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL GRIND FOR MY COFFEE?
If you are looking for your new Specialty Coffee in our coffee shop, it is important to know what influences the degree of grinding has on the taste of your cup of coffee. You can also have your coffee freshly ground by us when choosing your brewing method.
Coffee is ground to release its flavors.
When selecting the degree of grinding, the brewing method used is relevant, because the degree of grinding is chosen to match the brewing method. There is no generic grind size that fits all brewing methods.
The degree of grinding affects the taste directly.
A very fine degree of grinding is perfect for espresso, mocha, Turkish or Arabic coffee that is boiled with the coffee powder. The granules are therefore ground much finer than conventional coffee powder for filter methods.
A coarser degree of grinding brings out the floral and fruity notes from the beans.
We have designed a grinding table so that you can find your right grind and experience the right taste of coffee.

WHY SHOULD I BUY SPECIALTY COFFEE FOR THE OFFICE?
Every contact a customer or prospect has with your company shapes your brand. This also includes the coffee in your office that you offer at meetings. This effect should not be underestimated. Specialty Coffee differs significantly in taste from standard coffee. In particular, the many coffee aromas can form very different flavor profiles. A Specialty Coffee can therefore be a small but important brand touchpoint that conveys quality, creativity and Specialty Coffee.
Specialty Coffee can strengthen your brand
In addition, the first impression plays an important role, especially in consultations or sales talks. Now imagine you get a really good coffee with a particularly delicious flavor profile. That can contribute significantly to a positive first impression. Specialty Coffee is also a wonderful topic for small talk. For each product, we describe where it comes from. So every coffee has its story. That wouldn’t be a bad start for an introductory conversation.
Specialty Coffee as a motivational booster
But you should not underestimate Specialty Coffee also is a motivation for your team. Specialty Coffee can upgrade the morning coffee ritual to a special moment of pleasure. A moment of mindful enjoyment of a cup of really good coffee is a much better start to the day. And from our point of view, Specialty Coffee is also a sign of appreciation.
